Brand session vs Headshot session — which is right for me?

Headshot sessions & brand sessions are not created equal! I wanted to explain a little better about the difference between these types of sessions and why they are not one in the same.

A headshot session is basically a set of head & shoulders-only images. These are meant to be tight-cropped of mostly your face with a little bit of shoulders (décolletage) and outfit showing. I often say that if you are wearing a blazer (depending on the shape/cut), I will crop the bottom of the photo at about your top button.

I’ve had people ask about shoes for their headshot sessions before, and my answer is — you can wear whatever shoes you want because they will not be in the photos! There’s a slight chance the top of your skirt or pants might make an appearance, but a headshot session is not for full-body photos.

But never fear! That’s where brand sessions come into play!

A brand session is headshot session steroids, plus so much more. Brand sessions will often (not always) incorporate full body shots, standing & sitting photos, props, outfit changes, action photos, and sometimes additional people to act as models.

So if you are in the market for a new headshot, but you also need some of those other things as well, then a brand session is for you.
